The
paper discusses the notion of interactivity in art and the relationship
of artist/audience and artwork/participants. The discussion
is based on non-electronic interactions, thus emphasing communication,
collaboration, participation and inclusion between the originator,
work and participants. In the spirit of interaction, I invited
artists, art curators and art historians to contribute in writing
on the subject. The outcome was successful, since a respectable
panel of people namely: Virginia MacKenny, Storm Janse van Rensburg,
Michael Lumb, Andries Botha, Prof. Colin Richards and Jurgen
Schadeberg accepted my invitation. Thus transforming an academic
essay into a conceptual art work that is interactive in its
own right. The format of the essay takes you through the selected
contributions, followed by my own interpretation of each piece, highlighting
the vital aspects of interactive art.
